Aitkin Lake Resort
Aitkin Lake Resort and Campground, located on the south-west shore of Aitkin Lake, was established in 1926. Our undeveloped wooded area is rare to find in such close proximity to a metropolitan area.
This is a spot where you can still enjoy complete peace and tranquility. Many kinds of wild flowers can be seen along our wooded trails, including the Minnesota State Flower, the Showy Lady Slipper. It is a photographer’s and nature lover’s delight.
Aitkin Lake is a wilderness-type lake noted for the many species of waterfowl and wildlife. Some of them include the bald eagle, deer, black bear, otter, beaver and a wide variety of ducks and water birds. The many bays and inlets are enjoyed by the fisherman and canoeist alike.
Fishing
Aitkin Lake is connected via Aitkin Lake Flowage to Big Sandy Lake
with a total of more than 160 miles of shoreline. A variety of fish including walleye, northern, crappie, sunfish, bass, perch, and bullhead can be found in the lakes. Aitkin-Big Sandy Lake is ranked consistently in the top ten fishing lakes in Minnesota. Aitkin Lake has produced two state record fish in past years, a bass at 8 lb. 12 oz. and a bluegill at 2 lb. 2 oz. Fishermen of every age can have fun fishing off one of our docks next to the campground.
Cabins & Camping
Aitkin Lake Resort offers clean, comfortable cabins. They have a unique rustic charm and are ideally situated under large shade trees with a nice view of the lake. With multiple cabins to choose from, and unique & authentic design, you’ll feel right at home in your weekend stay.
Our campground is located along the shores of Aitkin Lake. The campsites include water and electric hook-ups and picnic tables. There are fire rings with firewood available. Sitting around a fire next to a moonlit lake is still one of the main enjoyments of the avid camper. For tenters that still like to enjoy the quiet beauty of a natural setting, we have a beautiful shaded point at the end of the campground. A shower house and toilet facility are available and, along with our premises, are kept clean and sanitary.
